The MoonGrove itself is home to lizards, tortoise, preying mantis, countless butterflies and moths and some large insects we have yet to identify!
There are small brown birds nestling in the trees that make occasional forays out of the trees to scoop up some of those insects we have yet to identify! There are I am sure also many more creatures who are yet to make us aware of their presence as they are only too aware of our bumbling around The Grove.
From The Grove we have spotted many birds of prey, which again we are still in the process of identifying. The Gulf of Amvrakikos, which we overlook, is, as the book of the same name states, literally ‘like nowhere else on earth’, more than 270 species of birds have been sighted there and we are looking forward to exploring the area and sighting some of these birds ourselves.
Every time we visit The Grove we find a different species of wild flower, the last being bee orchids. Because of the weather some of the flowers have a short life span and go over quite quickly, but the small white flower that has bloomed since February has still not quite finished its activity.
The undulation of the hillside on which The Grove sits, provides differing areas of vegetation that are home to a variety of grasses and wild flowers.
